Starbucks coupons are often available in your weekly newspaper. Check the Sunday flyers for Starbucks ads. I have often gotten Starbucks coupons at the library for free, as the coupons from the Sunday papers are clipped before they throw the paper away. Check your local library for a coupon box. 

Gift Certificate non-expiration laws - you might be able to use an expired Starbucks gift certificate

In several states, new laws have passed that a coupon or gift certificate are often still good for up to two years or more.  Check to see if your state is one of them, and don't throw away an expired Starbucks coupon or gift certificate because you can still use it. Check with your local Starbucks if you would like to use an outdated Starbucks gift certificate. Even if your state does not allow the use of outdated gift certificates, hold onto the Starbucks gift certificate for when you go on vacation - it might be accepted in another state. 

HOW TO SAVE MONEY AT STARBUCKS

A little known Starbucks fact is that they offer an 8 ounce coffee, which is a "short" meaning you get the same amount of coffee, less milk. It is cheaper and has just as much coffee as the larger 12 ounce size. (known as a Small, which is actually secretly a medium, in regular coffee lingo land, which is referred to as a "tall" in Starbucks talk and on the Starbucks menu board.) Make sure they know you want a short SIZE coffee, not a "short pull" which is the stronger part of the expresso, which will make for smaller amount of coffee, they will charge the regular Starbucks cost for a short pull. In short, ask for a short size. 

It is worthwhile to inquire at any restaurant if they have a discount senior rate on any menu item, (ranging from a 10% discount to a free beverage such as coffee or a soft drink). Sometimes a senior discount applies just to the senior, sometimes it applies if the senior is paying for the entire party. Find out the senior discount policy at each individual restaurant.

Don't let your hard earned free or discount Starbucks gift certificates go to waste

If something is wrong with your meal, don't hesitate to ask them to fix it. While nobody likes a whiner, a restaurant manager would rather know about a problem to avoid it happening in the future, and try to fix it so that the customer is happy with their meal and speaks well of the restaurant (in this case, Starbucks) and returns to Starbucks in the future. If you cannot get satisfaction at the Starbucks store itself, there is a comments section of the Starbucks website that you can submit both praise and criticism.
