Red Lobster coupons are
often available in your weekly newspaper. Check the Sunday flyers for Red
Lobster ads. I have often gotten Red lobster coupons at the library for free, as
the coupons from the Sunday papers are clipped before they throw the paper away.
Gift
Certificate non-expiration laws - In several states, new laws have passed that
some coupons and most gift certificates are still good for up to two years or more.
Check to see if your state is one of them, and
don't throw away an expired Red Lobster coupon or gift certificate because you
can still use it.
Red Lobster is owned by the Darden company, which means Olive
Garden and Red Lobster gift cards are usually good at both places. Verify this
on your individual gift card. I like to get Red Lobster gift cards when going on
vacation since they are good at Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Smokey Bones and
Bahama Breeze, so you have options of where you can go to eat and still use your
gift card. The same is true of Chili's gift cards, which work at Chili's,
Maggiano's, Romano Bakery.
Remember to order the smallest size cup
at any restaurant that has free refillable soft drinks.
Many
restaurants offer a senior discount such as free coffee or free
soft drink or a discount on meals. Inquire at your local Red
Lobster restaurant to see if they offer any sort of discount to
seniors.
Eat a small
snack like some salted nuts to tie yourself over before going out to eat. Often
after deciding you are hungry enough to go to a restaurant, then waiting for a table, and waiting again for
your entrees to arrive, you will be tempted to order extra appetizers that
you eat so fast you don't even enjoy them, and then they can ruin your appetite
for your main meal. An example of this classic restaurant blunder is ordering something
ordinary like chips and
regular salsa dip. You can have that at home, but if you are SUPER hungry it seems like a good
idea to tie you over until the meal arrives.
Unless you wanted to order the chips and salsa anyways, (restaurants like On the
Border do have great nacho chips, which you can sometimes find commercially sold
in stores like Costco, and some places like TGIFridays have a deluxe nacho
platter, but that is not just plain chips) spend money only on the foods you enjoy, not
extras that you don't really want but you can't wait for food any longer.
Unless
you know you like a special dessert item, wait about ten minutes after your done
eating your entree to assess if you actually feel like dessert or not. It takes a
few minutes for your body to register that you are already full. If you order
earlier, you might not realize that you don't really feel like dessert when it
arrives. If you don't enjoy your dessert, there is no point in ordering it.
However if you want dessert, Red Lobster has a great Key Lime Pie
and 4 other notable desserts to try.
Always
ask the waitress about any specials or notice the specials board when you come
in.
Free Meals at Red Lobster on Special
Occasions
Many restaurants give away free dessert or even a free meal for
special occasions. Inquire if your occasion qualifies for any freebies or visit
their website in advance. You may have to show some proof of the special
occasion. (i.e. DOB, or a report card for good grades, etc)
Red
Lobster Kids Menu
Darden's Red Lobster chain was selected
as one of the 10 best restaurants for families by Child Magazine for 2004.
Usually
the kids menu has cheaper items in better portion sizes, encourage kids towards
the kids menu. Red Lobster has an unusual kids menu, even compared to much more
expensive restaurants. Hot dogs and corn dogs; chicken fingers or strips;
burgers; macaroni and cheese; pizza. These are the
items that come to mind when we think of "kids' menus." More
operators, though, like Red Lobster, are serving up smaller portions of items
found on their main menus. These include pint-sized servings of broiled
fish, ribs, enchiladas, steak and meatloaf, Snow Crab Legs, fried
shrimp, baked chicken, Ghorma Sabzi,
or veal kidney. Of course, Red Lobster still has the kid menu favorites like
Chicken Fingers and Fries and Mac & Cheese, but if
your kids want an "adult" meal, see if there is something
available cheaper as an appetizer size portion, which might be a more suitable
portion and price.
Don't let your hard earned free Red
Lobster gift certificates go to waste
If something is
wrong with your meal, don't hesitate to ask them to fix it. Try to remember that
the restaurant staff is often very busy, in any restaurant the wait staff is
prone to forget about your free drink refill or a refill on cheddar bay
biscuits. But at Red Lobster, there are so many food combinations and options it
must be especially easy to goof. There are customers that ordered the Red
Lobster Holiday Feast platters with the 2 or 3 different entree items and sides,
so it is easy to see how orders get mixed up. If its a Red Lobster Shrimp fest,
its probably difficult for the wait staff to keep track of who ordered what kind
of shrimp cooked what way, or if you ordered something from the Red Lobster
light fare menu or not. (As with any restaurant offering a lighter fare or
health conscious menu, it is best to inspect items from the Red Lobster light
fare upon arrival to make sure it is indeed the healthier version you ordered,
and catch the wait staff before she leaves so she can fix right away.) It is
especially hard to keep track of some of the extra sides that come with Red
Lobster meals. But if something does go wrong, say something. Sometimes
management will throw in a free dessert (check out Red Lobsters yummy Chocolate
Wave, Key Lime Pie, Bananas Foster
Cheesecake, Apple Overboard, Vanilla Bean Cheesecake). or even comp the
item for free or half price, and if something goes REALLY wrong, if you waited a
very long time, if they had to completely re-do your entree, or similar issues.
While nobody likes a whiner, a restaurant manager would rather know about a
problem to avoid it happening in the future, and try to fix it so that the
customer is happy with their meal and speaks well of the restaurant (in this
case, Red Lobster) and returns to Red Lobster in the future.

Leftovers
Keep an igloo type cooler in the car with
a frozen ice pack to bring home leftovers. Even if you are staying at a hotel,
you might want to bring back some leftovers to reheat in the microwave
(available in many hotel rooms or in a central lobby area) for later as a
snack. (After I leave a Red Lobster, I always wish I had one more Red
Lobster biscuit later on that evening...)
