  Olive Garden coupons 

  Olive Garden coupons are often available in your weekly newspaper. Check the Sunday flyers for Olive Garden ads. I have often gotten Olive Garden coupons at the library for free, as the coupons from the Sunday papers are clipped before they throw the paper away. Check your local library for a coupon box. 

  Gift Certificate non-expiration laws - you might be able to use an expired Olive Garden gift certificate

  In several states, new laws have passed that a coupon or gift certificate are often still good for up to two years or more.  Check to see if your state is one of them, and don't throw away an expired Olive Garden coupon or gift certificate because you can still use it. At my local Olive Garden, an expired gift certificate was accepted at the manager's discretion. Check with your local Olive Garden if you would like to use an outdated Olive Garden gift certificate. Even if your state does not allow the use of outdated gift certificates, hold onto the Olive Garden gift certificate for when you go on vacation - it might be accepted in another state. 

  Olive Garden is owned by the Darden company, which means Olive Garden and Red Lobster gift cards are usually good at both places. Verify this on your individual gift card. I like to get Olive Garden gift cards when going on vacation since they are good at Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Smokey Bones and Bahama Breeze, so you have options of where you can go to eat and still use your gift card. The same is true of Chili's gift cards.  

  HOW TO SAVE MONEY EATING OUT

  Remember to order the smallest size beverage cup at any restaurant that has free refillable soft drinks. Most family oriented restaurants like Bertucci's, Olive Garden and Red Lobster have a kid sized cup with a cap to avoid spills.  It is also worthwhile to inquire at any restaurant if they have a discount senior rate on any menu item, (ranging from a 10% discount to a free beverage such as coffee or a soft drink). Sometimes a senior discount applies just to the senior, sometimes it applies if the senior is paying for the entire party. Find out the senior discount policy at each individual restaurant.

  Eat a small snack like some salted nuts to tie yourself over before going out to eat. Often after deciding you are hungry enough to go to a restaurant, then spent time waiting for a table, and waiting again for your entrees to arrive, you will be tempted to order extra appetizers that you eat so fast you don't even enjoy them, which can ruin your appetite for your main meal. An example of this classic restaurant blunder is ordering something ordinary like chips and regular salsa dip. You can have that at home, but if you are SUPER hungry it seems like a good idea to tie you over until the meal arrives. Unless you wanted to order the chips and salsa anyways, (restaurants like On the Border do have great nacho chips, which you can sometimes find commercially sold in stores like Costco, and some places like TGIFriday's have a deluxe nacho platter, but that is not just plain chips) spend money only on the foods you enjoy, not extras that you don't really want but you can't wait for food any longer or the kids are getting so cranky due to hunger that you order anything quick to appease them. Bring a small snack for them if for some reason their order is delayed. This is not usually a problem at Olive Garden since they offer the unlimited salad refills and breadsticks, but this does not come with every Olive Garden entree. 

  Unless you know you like a special dessert item, wait about ten minutes after your done eating your entree to decide if you actually feel like dessert or not. Diet experts say it takes at least 15 minutes for your body to register that you are already full. If you order earlier, you might not realize that you don't really feel like dessert when it arrives. If you don't enjoy your dessert, there is no point in ordering it. However if you KNOW you want dessert, Olive Garden has a great Seasonal Pumpkin Cheesecake, and the Olive Garden's Chocolate Lasagna is a personal favorite, as well as Olive Garden's White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake are good desserts to try.  Most restaurants are OK with if you just feel like splitting a dessert and bringing an extra fork or two and an extra plate to split a dessert.

  Free Meals at Olive Garden on Special Occasions

  Many restaurants give away free dessert or even a free meal for special occasions. Inquire if your occasion qualifies for any freebies or visit their website in advance. You may have to show some proof of the special occasion. (i.e. DOB, or a report card for good grades, etc) A good list of restaurants that give away free meals or desserts for certain occasions (including what freebies Olive Garden may give out) can be found here.

  Olive Garden offers at a special price all you can eat Soup,Salad & Breadsticks - garden-fresh salad, choice of homemade soup and warm garlic breadsticks with unlimited refills for $6.95 until 4 p.m. daily. The salad or soup and breadsticks is also included in dinner entrees after 4 p.m.

  Olive Garden Kids' Menu

  Usually the kids menu has cheaper items in better portion sizes, encourage kids towards the kids menu. Olive Garden does not list a kids menu per say, but does have finicky-kid friendly foods such as a make your own pizza with various pizza toppings, there is also an appetizer size pizza that might be a more appropriate size for children. The sampler Italiano has chicken fingers and your choice of a second or third item such as fried mozzarella sticks.  cheese ravioli, and  has an unusual kids menu, even compared to much more expensive restaurants. More operators, though, like Red Lobster, are serving up smaller portions of items found on their main menus. These include  pint-sized servings of broiled fish, ribs, enchiladas, steak and meatloaf, Snow Crab Legs, fried shrimp,  baked chicken, Ghorma Sabzi, or veal kidney. Of course, Red Lobster still has the kid menu favorites like Chicken Fingers and Fries and Mac & Cheese, but if your kids want an "adult" meal, see if there is something available cheaper as an appetizer size portion, which might be a more suitable portion and price. 

  Don't let your hard earned free or discount Olive Garden gift certificates go to waste

   If something is wrong with your meal, don't hesitate to ask them to fix it. Try to remember that the restaurant staff is often very busy, especially if they are taking care of customers with unlimited salad, soup, breadstick or pasta meals, so as in any restaurant, the wait staff is prone to forget about your free drink refill or a refill on breadsticks and may need a polite reminder. But at Olive Garden, there are so many food combinations and options it must be especially easy to goof. There are customers that ordered the Olive Garden unlimited soup, salad and breadstick option, or the Olive Garden pasta with different sauces entree, as well as remembering the daily specials, so it is easy to see how orders get mixed up. If it's a Olive Garden pasta fest, its probably difficult for the wait staff to keep track of who ordered what kind of pasta prepared with which sauce, or if you ordered something from the Olive Garden "garden fare" healthy menu or not. (As with any restaurant offering a lighter fare or health conscious menu, it is best to inspect items from the lighter Olive Garden "garden fare" upon arrival to make sure it is indeed the healthier version you ordered, and catch the wait staff before she leaves so she can fix right away.) But if something does go wrong, say something. Sometimes management will throw in a free dessert (check out Olive Garden's yummy Chocolate Lasagna). or even comp the item for free or half price, and if something goes REALLY wrong, if you waited a very long time, if they had to completely re-do your entree, or similar issues. While nobody likes a whiner, a restaurant manager would rather know about a problem to avoid it happening in the future, and try to fix it so that the customer is happy with their meal and speaks well of the restaurant (in this case, Olive Garden) and returns to Olive Garden in the future. 

  Restaurant Leftovers

  Keep an igloo type cooler in the car with a frozen ice pack to bring home leftovers. Even if you are staying at a hotel, you might want to bring back some leftovers to reheat in the microwave (available in many hotel rooms or in a central lobby area) for later as a snack. (After I leave a restaurant, I always wish I had one more Olive Garden garlic breadstick later on that evening...)

  I have personally found that if I order from Olive Garden's lunch menu, if you order from the page of the menu that says "Enjoy our freshly baked garlic breadsticks and your choice of homemade soup or garden-fresh salad with any entr?."  that the unlimited breadsticks, soup or salad that come with the entree are actually plenty for me for a lunch time meal, and I usually only have a few bites of the actual entree and bring the rest of the actual entree itself home for dinner. Some entrees keep better than others for this purpose, but if you bring along your igloo cooler, some Olive Garden lunch entrees that travel and re-heat well include Olive Garden's Grilled Chicken Spiedini and the filled pasta items such as the manicotti, raviolis, lasagna, and the Chicken Parmigiana. Since lunch at Olive Garden starts at about $7.75, I feel like I am getting a real bargain getting two meals for the price of one.
