How to save money on gas and groceries & grocery coupons

Posted by admin | Coupon, Peapod coupon, Uncategorized, code, coupons, discount, food, go green money saving tips, grocery, shipping deals | Tuesday 10 June 2008 6:23 pm
Since gas prices and grocery prices are so high, an idea to save money on gas and groceries is Peapod.com
Last weekend it cost $4 in gas to get to the nearest Shoprite and $4 gas back home. Somehow the meat that was for dinner didn’t get packed, but it would cost more in gas to drive back to get it than the actual meat itself cost!  I am trying out grocery shopping online, since Peapod delivers groceries for $6.95, it is cheaper to grocery shop at Peapod – plus the first Peapod order you get $10 off. Here is what I found when going to try out Peapod:
  • Click here for $10 in FREE groceries from Peapod
  • All grocery store circular flyer specials for the week apply, plus some additional Peapod specials. Otherwise the prices are the same as they are in your local grocery store.
  • Pick a date and time for Peapod to deliver your grocery order. Some times are cheaper than the $6.95 delivery (by a $1 or $2) because they will already be in your neighborhood, so look for these discount delivery times to save money.
  • When you shop at Peapod,  pick all your groceries by searching by product name, category, or “aisle” and add the number of each item to your Peapod grocery cart. The total cost of your order is seen on the right hand side of the pages. Very easy and faster than actual grocery shopping even if you are not a “computer person”.
  • As long as the circular or Peapod sale or special is going on when you place your order, it is ok if you ask for the order to be delivered on a date past the sale date.
  • Put in a credit card to hold your order when you place it, but when the Peapod driver arrives to deliver your order, you can give him a check and coupons or a credit card to pay for the groceries.
  • Food is delivered from Peapod in coolers to keep everything fresh.
  • All food is packed from the Peapod food section of the store, so you will never get a carton of milk or ice cream that someone left sitting on a shelf somewhere, and all food is fresh
  • You can use manufacturer coupons at Peapod (not the ones you print via websites or Coolsavings). You can also find clipped coupons for specific brand names on ebay for a small handling fee.
  • You can save more money by spliting your Peapod order with a neighbor and save yourselves a trip to the store.
  • Peapod is a nice way to stock up on “heavy things” like dog food or charcoal, or a nice idea for someone who is shut in, sick, or just had a baby so that they do not have to go the store.
  • If you don’t have a Peapod service in your area, some other groceries stores offer delivery services as well. Visit Freebieville.com to find more grocery delivery deals.

Green Money Saving Tips & Resources - Save on Groceries, Gas, Energy

Posted by admin | go green money saving tips, grocery, wholesale for the public | Wednesday 7 May 2008 6:29 pm
Today I found some good go green/money saving tips and resources that may help out  those looking to save money & resources and feel good about being “greener” at the same time.
I haven’t been very environmentally conscious over the years. I always thought myself frugal but I have wasted alot of stuff and resources. But I’m trying to do better now, especially with trying to waste less energy and gas. Mom on a Mission had some good ideas that don’t feel too hard to implement, like the Ten Things for Earth List. Many of the frugal things my Nana told me she did in the depression are actually are really “green”, so it makes sense to give it a try.
Some other good resources I found from the Mom on a Mission blog that might save you or someone you know some money:
  • Angel Food Ministries - They buy food in bulk at volume discounts, so they can provide families with approximately $65 worth of quality nutritious food for $30. One box of Angel Food feeds a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month.  They take food stamps, but anyone is welcome to use them (no income caps or forms or limits - just sign up). If you know someone who could use a hand with grocery bills or is a shut-in or elderly and this could make getting nutritious food easier, this can be a great resource. More info here
  • FreeCycle - a nonprofit group who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and keeping good stuff out of landfills. I have lots of stuff that still works like fax machines, computer monitors, old clothes, furniture that is just sitting in the garage and attic - you know those items that you don’t want anymore that too good to throw out but you’re never gonna use it? If you do, or if you need these kinds of items, find your local chapter here.
