A few ways to save on prescriptions.

Prescriptions are expensive but necessary in a tough economy. Here are some ideas for free or cheaper prescriptions:

  1. Many pharmacies such as KMart, Wal-mart, CVS and Target are offering many generic prescriptions  for $4 or 90 days for $10 or $12. Inquire about what generics are available at pharmacies in your area.
  2. See if the medication you take is cheaper for the same medicine but in a different dosage pill. Do you take 10 MG of something 4 times a day? It might be cheaper in 2 20 MG tablets cut in half than 4 10 mg tablets cost you now. Many medications are more expensive – up to twice the price – at smaller dosage pills. Find out the price for the same medication you take but at a higher dosage pill which you can split in half with a pill cutter. Ask your doctor to revise your prescription to the cheapest MG increment.
  3. Are you over 50? AARP has discount prescription programs as well as other discounts and freebies on insurance (including gap policies) and other services like travel for about $16 a year. Sign up with this link and get a free travel kit bag, with compartments for your passport, cards, cheques, phone, etc.
  4. Sign up for a free printable pharmacy discount card good at 65,000 pharmacies including CVS, Target, Walgreens, etc.
  5. Check out if you are eligible for any of your medications for free – typically for the  uninsured but sometimes still available in special situations such as high medical costs in your family. Visit ppa-rx.org for details

If you have been waiting for the Entertainment Book to go on sale – it is now 50% off – my local book normally costs $30 but that book and several others were only $15

The Entertainment Book has restaurant coupons for buy one get one free coupons plus coupons to McDonalds, KFC, Dunkin Donuts and other local fast food restaurants plus casual dining restaurants. It also has discount hotels on their website for members and  Olive Garden & Red Lobster gift cards 10% off.

StudentUniverse.com has some good rates on flights, hotels and hostels for college students who travel

If you spend a lot of money on books like me and you are trying to cut down on expenses this might be of interest.

It is a website called Booksfree that rents audiobooks and paperback books for a flat fee, just like how Netflix or Blockbuster rents DVD movies. (the interface looks like Netflix to me). It has popular books (like Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World’s Worst Dog) and several new releases that I haven’t seen in my library yet and several categories of books and audiobooks with the same free shipping deal and no late fees like Netflix.

You can browse the selection before trying it to see if it is worthwhile for you. They had some cookbooks I was looking at on Amazon and a few new releases I was waiting to go on sale. I like this idea better than a bookclub, it’s pretty straightforward.

I didn’t specifically see textbooks in my quick look but they did have categories that sound like textbooks like Business & Economy, Philosophy, Political Science, History, Psychology. etc. They also have Oprah’s Picks, Quill Awards and Today’s Show picks.

If you can’t find it at the library this seems like a good deal to me. There is  also a 25% your first month’s Booksfree rental coupon code DAX8

In 2009, save money with Blockbuster – they offer 3 movies out at a time, 5 in-store movie exchanges per month for $9.99. That is so much cheaper than going to the movies and some people are considering dropping some paid cable channels and instead getting a Netflix or Blockbuster subscription. No late fees, free shipping

I have a Blockbuster subscription and movies ship within the day so there is fast turnaround and delivery.  I got many new and upcoming releases (Benjamin Buttons is on my movie queue), movies I wanted to see in the theater and missed, and some good exercise videos.

Try BLOCKBUSTER Total Access – and get the first month $9.99, Rent Online, Exchange In-Store

If you love Sephora and high end makeup and hair care, then you have probably heard about the Friends and Family sale that takes place in Sephora and a few other retailers around this time of year. Ulta’s 20% off sale is this week – get 20% off one item with coupon code 97153. There are also several good gift with purchase items for Too Faced, Lorac, Duwop, Urban Decay, etc.
